D2 Playoffs -- Round 1

PFC Original 13 Crooked River 7

Painesville Furniture & Carpet opened the playoffs with a decisive win over Crooked River. The victory for the conference champs featured 4 goals and 3 assists each from the hot hands of Mike Ingenthron and Tony Parenti—a hat trick and 5 assists from Jeremy Letterman--and 2 more goals from Jeff Marny. Justin Ropos took the win in net, but was upstaged by Dom Anselmo with an end to end goal by Dom as goaltender—unassisted. Joe Sayegh led the tan horde with 4 goals and 2 assists, and a goal each from Marty Pajek and Steve Smith.

Misfits 9 Boilermakers 7

The temperature was over 90 degrees and humid, as the Misfits outlasted their friendly Rivals with both coed teams full of hockey talent, relentless hustle and skill. Liam Conway (Brock University, Ontario) led the scoring with 4 goals and 2 assists. Add goals by Mentor High’s Principal Adam Dudziak and Kris Wiess and the cliffhanger finale tips to the green machine. Team Ireland’s Dean Kelly led the boilers with Defense turning into Offense and 4 goals. Zach Grandstaff (Team Audi) added 2 goals in a never-say-die-rally. Mackenzie Mramor added 1 goal and 1 assist with Barons/Gilmour coach Seanna Conway, sister Alexis, and Dad Michael in goal, undaunted by the heat wave. Matt Wiess takes the win in the crease after a brilliant game of netminding.

Zero Pucks Given 3 North Coast Spa 2 (OT)

Nothing brings down the house like a sudden death win in overtime during playoffs. Justin Szucs engineered just that with the winning goal, after scoring the second goal, and Brendan Moreau the first amidst a fierce goalie battle. Adam Dudziak and mike Bene tallied the scores for the Free Agents in a game characterized by defense. The win in goal to Adam Grady.

Westcor 11 North Coast Spa 3

For a period and a half North Coast Spa looked like they were spoiling for a huge upset. But it wasn’t meant to be. The pivotal factor seemed to be 2 full lines by the red gang and some dazzling assists. Scoring combinations saw MikeTimms, Brian Przybyszewski, Mike Abraham and Dom Anselmo combined for a late, well-timed rally. Kim Piszczor, Sarah Timms and Mike Thompson added the baracade on D for the win. The Blue Spa contingent put on a show in fading light at Kiwanis Recreation Park from Brad Zicarelli, Alan Raeder, Matt Biats and Mike Garam, well worth the price of admission.
