Playoffs - D2

Old, Fat & Drunk(Erie) 16 Boilermakers 4

Erie was rocking with a cookout to soften the humid afternoon. Bailey Maloney and Chris Merski tallied 5 goals each, with Tony Rondinelli another 4. Not an easy afternoon for the Boilers, who did not concede without a fight, as Jason Wiess scored 2 goals, another by Seanna Conway putting laser in the back of the net over Rithcjie K’s shoulder, and Mackenzie Mramor scoring from the edge of the crease. Rumor has it the Wiess clan also bagged some blue gills in the reservoir while fishing before the game too. Patrick Ball takes his 6th win in net as Erie takes top seed into the next round of playoffs, as well as winning the league regular season championship.

Painesville Furniture & Carpet 15 Havel’s Greenhouses 1

PFC was back in form, but denied a shutout with a lone goal by Havel’s Jay Bracken from Zach Grandstaff late in the game. The PFC point total nonetheless soared from Mike Ingenthron (7), Jeremy Letterman (6), Tony Parenti (6), Jeff Burhenne (3), and Nick Larkin (4). The win in goal to Patrick Ball over Domenic Anselmo, who subbed for Tony Boris and had little rest.

Westcor 5 Zero Points Given 4 (OT)

The most exciting game of the day went to the battling reds of Westcor after a head on head afternoon with ZPG ending in a 4-4 tie. Brian Przybyszewski scored Westcor’s first 2 goals with assists from Mike and Sarah Timms. Mike Timms(former rugby scrum half and English pro hockey player) also put in the third goal, a nd Mark Abraham the fourth. For ZPG Brandon Moreau had the first goal of the game, with 2 for Jeff Campbell and 1 for Greg Crissman to get the game to sudden death overtime. Mark Abraham landed the game winner from Mike Timms as the rink erupted in applause. A stirring performance and the win in net to Mike Thompson, as Westcor beats the odds-makers en route to the semi-final. The Przybyszewski clan also went fishing in the reservoir with grandsons Nathan and Brody landing many bass, and Grandparents Fred and Debbie helping enjoy Painesville’s Park amenities.
