Painesville Furniture and Carpet 8 vs. Book Hockey 1
The team experience aspect of Dek Hockey was apparent in the defending champion’s dismantling of the talent laden roster including ex-Riverside hockey players for Book Hockey. Jeremy Letterman lead the way with a hat trick. Teammates Joe Reedy, Kevin Myles and Nick Larkin added hustle and points. Net minder Mike Thompson came close to hauling in the first shutout ever in Northeast Ohio Dek Hockey history. Dave Reardon scored Book Hockey’s lone tally with an assist from Chris Slocombe, and some fine goaltending from Steve DiMatteo.
Zero Pucks Given 19 vs. Falvey Realty 6
ZPG followed suit with experience and passing thereby running away with the season opener v. free agent laden Falvey Realty, missing an injured Brian Przybyszewski. Jeff Cambell opened the Gong Show with a goal, eventually putting up 6 points total. Mark Contorno and Jeff Cambell set a furious pace adding 5 goals each, many from the slot caused by pressure and turnovers. Despite the dominance of ZPG Falvey’s Dan Bolda would not go away without a hat trick, mostly from shots close in. Jeff Havel, Peter Ghobrial and David Whitcomb all added points for Falvey.
Boilermakers 13 vs. Master Pizza 7
The Boilers came out with helmeted youth and style, and Dillon Kopferman(CWRU) a haircut—shades--and MSOE lacrosse shorts. A Mike Cottos slap shot found its way into the net, while Lake Catholic’s Zach Grandstaff and the Lady Baron’s MacKenzie Mramor added 5 goals each. Master Pizza captain Tony Boris scored 2 goals with a hat trick by Brandon Klinger, in a rally falling short in the 3rd period.
