Week 6 Recap - Winter League 2016

Zero Pucks Given 8 (yellow) vs.

Painesville Furniture and Carpet 6 (blue)

ZPG and PFC put on an exciting battle, both at full strength. ZPG’s Brendan Moreau came thru big with 4 goals, several at critical junctures. ZPG Speedster Mark Contorno and teammate Greg Crissman added 2 goals each, and Mike Cottos put a much needed bullet in the back of the net late in the game, after a takeaway. Jeremy Lettermen Paced PFC with all 6 goals, three with assists from Mackenzie Lein. The Bly v. Thompson goalie dual was nothing short of brilliant, with Brian Bly getting his second win in two starts, and ZPG going into the playoffs tied for third.

Havel’s Greenhouses 18 (forest green) vs

Conway Land Title Company 5 (red)

Havel’s completed their 6-0 season as Dek Hockey’s only undefeated league champion to date with a decisive victory over Conway’s Reds. They did this despite the Reds calling on Brady Kloss of the New Jersey Renegades Junior A hockey team (former Mentor High All Star) and Mark Abraham (yes—Christian’s Brother). Havel’s offense boldly loaded the offensive zone, driving the net while confident their goalie Andrew Steinmetz could withstand any orange orb odd man rushes. The plan succeeded, as Jake Hackett(hat trick), John Hunter (7 goals), Connor Stump (5 goals), and Jeff Havel (2 goals) ran rampant, dotting the victory with a “Happy Gilmour” slapshot from Captain Dan Bolda. While Havel’s made life miserable for goaltender Zach Aldrich, the Reds Brian Przybyszewski was undaunted, scoring his own hat trick in retaliation—2 of which were unassisted.
